SAWAYAMA Song Sorter

About SAWAYAMA

SAWAYAMA dropped on April 17, 2020, her debut album on Dirty Hit. She wrote and recorded it in 2018 and 2019 in London and Los Angeles. It's about family and identity, and it jumps between 2000s pop, nu metal, R&B and dance-pop. Clarence Clarity produced most of it, with Danny L Harle, Kyle Shearer, Bram Inscore and others.

STFU! came out first, in November 2019. She says it came from microaggressions. XS is a joke about capitalism while the world sinks, and Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys) is about gay men turning away from traditional masculinity. Bad Friend came from finding out on social media that a former close friend had a baby - she's said it's her favorite on the album. Snakeskin samples the Final Fantasy IV fanfare. Before Chosen Family came out she leaked its chords and lyrics so fans could make their own versions.

It has a Metacritic score of 89, and Elton John called it "the strongest album of the year so far". It reached number 80 in the UK. The Dynasty Tour was delayed by COVID and ran from late 2021 into 2022.

The deluxe edition came out on December 4, 2020, with LUCID, We Out Here, Bees & Honey and Love It If We Made It, a cover of The 1975's song. The following April she put out a new version of Chosen Family with Elton John, who sings a verse and plays piano. That is in the sorter too.

Eighteen songs with the deluxe tracks on, about five minutes. Try it against Hold the Girl.
