About Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You
Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You dropped on August 8, 2025. She announced it on March 24, her birthday, along with a huge tour. Stereogum noted it had earlier been talked about as a companion EP of Preacher’s Daughter B-sides. It's a prequel, set from 1986, five years before the first album, and tells Ethel's teenage romance with Willoughby Tucker.
She produced it with Matthew Tomasi. Dust Bowl interpolates Duster's Stars Will Fall, and she's said she bought the synths Angelo Badalamenti used on Twin Peaks. Nettles was the first single, in June, at over eight minutes. F**k Me Eyes followed in July, a nod to Kim Carnes' Bette Davis Eyes. It's the oldest song on the album, and she started it around five years earlier.
It debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200 and number 12 in the UK, and went to number five in Australia. Metacritic gives it an 83. She toured it on The Willoughby Tucker Forever Tour.
Ten songs, about two minutes. Rank it against Preacher’s Daughter and see which half of the story wins.
