Petals For Armor Song Sorter

About Petals For Armor

Petals For Armor dropped on May 8, 2020, but it had been arriving for months. Simmer came out in January, then Petals for Armor I in February and Petals for Armor II on April 21. The two EPs are the album's first ten songs. She wrote it through 2019, while Paramore were on a break after After Laughter, and she's talked openly about the divorce and depression that came before it and about starting therapy in 2018.

Taylor York produced it, in Nashville and LA. She's said it started as a plan to "write a bunch of R&B songs for fun", and the title came from the idea that "the best way for me to protect myself is to be vulnerable."

The Leave It Alone and Cinnamon videos, both by Warren Fu, pick up where Simmer's left off. Roses / Lotus / Violet / Iris has boygenius - Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus - on backing vocals. Zac Farro directed the Dead Horse video, and she's said the song "offers strength back to a younger, weaker version of myself." Crystal Clear closes it with music from Friends or Lovers, a song by her grandfather, Rusty Williams.

It debuted at number 18 in the US and number four in the UK, and it went to number one on Billboard's Top Rock Albums chart. That made her the first woman to top that chart both solo and in a band. The tour got cancelled because of the pandemic, and it was another six years before she toured on her own.

Fifteen songs, about four minutes. Find Me Here, from the Self-Serenades EP that December, ended up on FLOWERS for VASES / descansos.
