About Mud

Mud dropped on October 9, 2026. She started writing it in November 2024, still touring Big Ideas, burnt out and getting over a breakup. She got sober again while making it, and she says she started out feeling "covered in shit" and finished "so clean and clear".

It began in Nashville, but it really came together at a cabin in Big Bear with Solomonophonic, Jack DeMeo, Jamie McLaughlin and Gigi Grombacher, cooking dinner and passing mics around the kitchen. She calls them a "family band". They regrouped at Electric Lady in New York and finished in Joshua Tree, mostly playing live in one room, with her on drums some of the time.

Twiggy was the first single, on July 31. She joked that it's about people who "lack both butts and emotional availability", and Cole Preston from Wallows is in the video. Bottle and I Won’t Cry followed. I Won’t Cry was written and recorded in about three hours on an early Big Bear trip, and Bottle, Champagne and Wine Drunk are about coming to terms with being done drinking. Once they wrote Covered In Mud, she knew what the album was called.

She wrote Moon So High in the last Joshua Tree sessions, decided it had to be a duet, and DMed John Mayer. Back in 2021 she'd joked that a message from him meant she'd "made it". Now he's on track 7.

Eleven songs, about two minutes. Then put it up against Big Ideas.
