About CALM
CALM stands for Calum, Ashton, Luke and Michael, which Luke called "a nod to our fans" who'd been using the acronym for years. It's the "jam album": a few songs were recorded live as a band, and instead of writing 100 songs, they wrote just 20 to 25. It came out on March 27, 2020, with Louis Bell, Charlie Puth, Andrew Watt and others producing.
Easier and Teeth are the dark ones, with industrial rhythms and a drum groove that borrows from Nine Inch Nails' Closer. Tom Morello plays guitar on Teeth, which became a WWE Survivor Series theme. No Shame was recorded live with lyrics written afterwards and debuted at the bushfire relief concert, Fire Fight Australia. Wildflower's big video was cancelled by lockdown, so they filmed on a green screen passed between their houses. Luke wrote Not In The Same Way about his girlfriend: "a lot of the mistakes are mine."
It came out with a twist: about 11,000 copies shipped early in the US, so it debuted at number 62 and jumped to number 2 the next week, and fans started a petition. Kill My Time, the bonus track, makes 13 songs, about three minutes.
