About Youngblood

Youngblood is the album after the break. Touring ended in October 2016, they took the rest of the year off, and when they came back they'd worked out that pop was their strongest direction. It came out on June 15, 2018, made mostly in LA with Andrew Watt, Louis Bell and Ali Tamposi. They posted a weekly YouTube series, Cocktail Chats, on how each song was written.

Ashton said Youngblood is about "youthful and naive promises" when you first fall in love. The video, shot in Tokyo, gives an elderly couple 24 hours to relive their youth. Want You Back was the last song written. Lie to Me was written the day after Youngblood, and Ashton wanted "a Police 'Every Breath You Take'-type guitar" mixed with a modern groove; the Julia Michaels version came in December 2018. Valentine was their attempt at the perfect Valentine's Day song, and Ashton co-directed the video. Why Won't You Love Me was co-written with Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. Meet You There named the 2018 tour.

With Monster Among Men, Meet You There and Babylon, that's 16 songs, about four minutes.
