Hot Pink Song Sorter

About Hot Pink

Hot Pink dropped on a Thursday - November 7, 2019 - and debuted at number 93. That's not a typo. She'd quit weed and cigarettes while making it, and she said her writing got "more concise and clear and levelheaded". Pink is "my favorite color and has been for my whole life."

She wanted it to be "a lot more African influenced. I can sample Blink-182 but put an African vocal sample in there" - and she did both. Bottom Bitch samples What's My Age Again?, and Won't Bite with Smino samples Miriam Makeba and Harry Belafonte. Yeti Beats and Kurtis McKenzie produced a lot of it. Dr. Luke produced Say So, Rules, Like That and Shine under the name Tyson Trax, which drew criticism because of Kesha's case against him.

And then there's Say So. A TikTok dance took it to number five, and Haley Sharpe, who made the dance, has a cameo in the '70s-style video. Then the Nicki Minaj remix came out in May 2020 and went to number one - the first number one for both of them, and the first time a female rap duo had topped the Hot 100. Streets had its own moment a year later, when the Silhouette Challenge took over TikTok and sent it to 16.

It went from number 93 to number nine, her first top-ten album, and went double platinum. Not bad for a Thursday.

Eleven songs, about two minutes. Juicy is on the Amala page, where it first came out.
