Scarlet Song Sorter

About Scarlet

Scarlet dropped on September 22, 2023, and it was a reset. People had said she was too pop to be called a rapper - "Don't ever fuckin disrespect me as a rapper" - and in April she said "no more pop" and called Hot Pink and Planet Her cash grabs. Then she shaved her head and eyebrows and showed up covered in blood. When people called it demonic, she said: "Your fear is not my problem."

Attention, Paint The Town Red and Demons came first, and the rest was recorded in Malibu in about ten days. She'd gone back to Erykah Badu, John Coltrane and '90s hip-hop. It's her first album since Purrr! with no features, and her first cover she isn't on.

Paint The Town Red samples Dionne Warwick's Walk On By, and she painted a canvas red while playing it - that painting became the cover. It went to number one, her first solo number one in the US, and it was the first solo song by a female rapper to top the UK chart. Agora Hills is named after Agoura Hills, where she spent part of her childhood, and it went to seven. Christina Ricci is in the Demons video. Attention is "not really a song, [but] more of, like, a piece - it's a message", and it got two Grammy nominations.

In April 2024 came Scarlet 2 CLAUDE, named after Claude Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. It added seven songs, with features this time - A$AP Rocky on URRRGE!!!!!!!!!! and Teezo Touchdown on MASC. She's since called Scarlet "a massive fart" for her, which is honestly iconic. Ouchies deserves better, though.

With the 2 CLAUDE songs it's 24 songs, about seven minutes. It's her biggest sort.
