About Golden Hour
Golden Hour is the album where she fell in love and everything turned the colour of the title. She wrote and recorded it through 2017 with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, partly in a studio above Sheryl Crow's horse stable, and the title is partly from the August 2017 solar eclipse. Banjo and pedal steel meet vocoder and vibraphone, in what Grammy.com called "futurism meeting traditionalism."
Butterflies was the first song she wrote after meeting Ruston Kelly at the Bluebird Cafe, and it feels floaty and dreamy on purpose. Space Cowboy came from a barn: a stallion charged at her in the arena and her riding teacher told her to move away. Slow Burn was written on her porch, and she's said Mother came out in about 15 minutes during an LSD trip. High Horse is a Bee Gees-and-Daft Punk disco track about someone a bit too full of themselves. Rainbow is the closer, written years earlier as an encouraging note to herself - she dedicated it to the LGBTQ+ community but also to "anyone who has any kind of a weight on their shoulders."
It won Album of the Year at the 2019 Grammys, and all four of its nominations. Thirteen songs, about three minutes.
