About Pageant Material

Pageant Material came out on June 23, 2015, and it's the rhinestone one. They recorded most of it live at RCA Studio A in Nashville, "in a big circle," she said, and her sister Kelly shot the cover. The title song is, in Kacey's words, "a satirical song poking fun of myself for being a real human" - and fans connect it to her frown at the 2013 CMAs.

Dime Store Cowgirl is named for something someone actually said to her when she was a kid: "Don't wear your hat like that! You're gonna look like some dime store cowgirl." This Town opens with a recording of her late grandmother, found in her voice notes. Biscuits was written at a songwriters' retreat where they drew names from a hat, and its video is "Hee Haw meets Pee Wee's Playhouse meets Wes Anderson." Good Ol' Boys Club satirises the Nashville establishment.

Are You Sure, with Willie Nelson, is the hidden track. It started on his tour bus when she asked why he no longer played it, and she wanted it as "a little nugget for people who make it to the end of the record." Fourteen songs with it, about three minutes.
