About Angel
Angel dropped on September 18, 2026, on RCA. The light in the painting was the first song she wrote for it, backstage at an Older Tour show in San Francisco in May 2024. She said it's "about the euphoric beginning of a new connection", and it opens the album.
She made it in LA over nearly two years with Mason Stoops and Taylor Mackall. They started in January 2025 at Mason's studio in Altadena, which the Eaton fire destroyed. The last thing he saved was the tape of Anybody's fool, and if you listen closely to the chorus you can hear the wind. A few weeks later she went to New York for Floyd Collins, and she wrote Soldier of the road in her dressing room between rehearsals. It's about how hard touring is, and Robin Pecknold and Fleet Foxes are on it.
Our strange ways runs over seven minutes, because she wanted "a long Joni Mitchell song". Mason's song is for Mason, and when she played it to him they both cried. The crowd is track 13, for her dad.
Ugly things was the second single. Over country gave her next tour its name, The Over Country Tour. The cover is a painting in paint and chalk by tidy.totes, the first of her covers without her on it.
Fourteen songs, about three minutes. The 15-second second Angel track at the very end isn't in here.
