Endless Song Sorter

About Endless

Endless came out on 19 August 2016 as a visual album, streaming only on Apple Music. It's 45 minutes of him silently building a staircase while the music plays, and it followed a livestream on boysdontcry.co that had been running since 1 August. It was also his last album for Def Jam, and it finished his contract with them. The very next day he put out Blonde on his own. He's called getting out of that deal a "seven-year chess game".

He recorded it between 2013 and 2016 in California, London, Miami and Berlin. Jonny Greenwood arranged the strings and James Blake played synths on (At Your Best) You Are Love, his cover of the Isley Brothers song Aaliyah made famous. Alex G plays guitar on U-N-I-T-Y, Wither, Slide on Me, Rushes and Higgs, and Jazmine Sullivan and Sampha sing on it too.

Rushes borrows from Lauryn Hill's Just Like Water, and a Slide on Me remix with Young Thug aired on Blonded Radio in 2017. A few days after Endless and Blonde, reports said Universal's boss Lucian Grainge had banned streaming exclusives across the company. Critics were mixed. Pitchfork found the film "painfully dull" and the music "much more exciting", but it's become a cult favourite.

It came out on CD and vinyl in November 2017. The film opens and closes with Device Control, which is Wolfgang Tillmans' track and isn't on the audio releases, so it isn't here.

It's 19 songs and about five minutes, the biggest album sort here. None of them have previews. Pair it with Blonde, the album it was released next to.
