About MOONCHILD
MOONCHILD, her debut album, dropped on September 10, 2020, after being pushed back from late 2019. It took about two years to make, overlapping with her mother's illness. She told Hypebae she thinks of herself as a "child of the moon" because she feels more energized at night.
It's a concept album in three phases, like the moon: the crescent for innocence and curiosity, the eclipse for losing hope, and the full moon for finding yourself. Wide Open (Foreword) opens it, and she wanted it to be "an outrightly feminist statement there, but in a really sardonic manner."
Switchblade was the first single, in April 2020. Selene is named after the Greek goddess of the moon, and she said it's "about pure sensuality and femininity." Lose, the piano ballad that ends phase two, was the last single, and Plot Twist kicks off phase three.
NME named it one of the best Asian albums of 2020.
Ten songs, about two minutes. Plot Twist is my pick.
