Clarity Song Sorter

About Clarity

Clarity dropped on June 28, 2019, on her own BunHead Records - but if you were around for it, you'd already heard most of it. Starting with Broken on April 25, she put out a new song every week for nine weeks, and the full project only arrived once Another One had come out. Icy, Meet The Parents and Shinin' were the three you hadn't heard yet.

She's never been keen on calling it a proper album. She told Paper it came out of a heartbreak, and that writing about sex was where she "found fun and freedom" again. She called it her "personal journey over the last two years." Most of it was produced by Made in China (Dr. Luke), Aaron Joseph and Vaughn Oliver, with B HAM, Jussifer and Ben Billions on some songs.

Icy is the real lead single - she said so herself on Twitter - and its frozen imagery is about a relationship going cold. Do Me has an '80s hair-metal strut to it, Personal Hell is the bounciest song ever written about a breakup, and Shinin' is the lighters-up closer about getting through it all.

It never got near the Billboard 200, but the critics loved it. The New York Times gave it ten out of ten and put it fourth on its list of the year's best albums, and The Guardian and NME both gave it four stars.

Twelve songs, about three minutes. Personal Hell has to be top three. I don't make the rules.
