Detour Song Sorter

About Detour

Detour very nearly didn't come out. In January 2026 she posted that the album had been "done for six months but my record label has refused to give me a release date." She asked to be dropped - "I'm tired of having no control over my own life or career" - and added, "I'm dropping 'Detour' regardless." She left Republic that spring, and it finally came out on May 29, 2026, on BunHead.

She made it in late-night sessions with Frost Children and Margo XS, chasing what she called "trashy" EDM, and she says it's her most personal album yet. Polo was the song that turned everything around. It came from a frustrating meeting at the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills - "I don't belong in a Polo Lounge!" - and she said it "kinda reset all of the music I was working on." Porches is on Jeep, with strummed guitars and Auto-Tune turned all the way up.

Brutalist is the one that'll get you. It's about the Post-Pyramide, a brutalist building in Hamburg, demolished in 2018, that she and her architect dad used to drive past when she was a kid. Pitchfork called it her "greatest song to date", and I'm not going to argue. Basketball goes back to 2019 and SOPHIE co-produced it - it's the last song they made together. "That was my first experience ever losing a friend and collaborator," she told NME. Bring tissues.

Pitchfork called the whole thing her "true artistic debut", and Rolling Stone gave it three and a half stars. In September came Detour (Rare N' Deluxe), opening with Pop Sound, the song that started her weekly run of SoundCloud drops back in February, plus Rare N' Deluxe, Like a Cherry, Autobahn and What a Night.

With the deluxe songs it's 18 songs, about five minutes.
