TURN OFF THE LIGHT Song Sorter

About TURN OFF THE LIGHT

Some artists do a Christmas album. Kim Petras did Halloween. TURN OFF THE LIGHT, VOL. 1 came out on October 1, 2018, with eight songs, and exactly a year later she put out the full TURN OFF THE LIGHT - ten new songs added to the original eight. She'd planned a Vol. 2, but decided to give fans "the whole damn story" in one go.

The new songs come first, from Purgatory to Death By Sex, and Vol. 1 runs from o m e n to Boo! Bitch!. o m e n was "very inspired by the soundtrack of Halloween", and Close Your Eyes was the song that gave her the idea for the whole thing. In The Next Life is her favorite, a big theatrical Freddie Mercury moment where "evil Kim" takes over. And she thinks the woo-ah on Boo! Bitch! is the best she's ever recorded - she nearly named the mixtape after it.

The title track is the big one. It was inspired by Britney's Blackout and Monster Mash, and it has Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, doing the spoken part. Kim has called her "the ultimate one", and getting her was the seal of approval for the whole idea. Massacre slips in a bit of Carol of the Bells, and TRANSylvania is a pun that does exactly what it says.

She announced a Vol. 3 for October 2021, but it never came - she said she couldn't put it out unless she could play it live for fans straight away. So every October we all just go back to this one, and it holds up.

Eighteen songs, about five minutes. Best ranked with the lights off.
