PORTALS Song Sorter

About PORTALS

PORTALS dropped on March 31, 2023, and it starts with a funeral. The first teaser was a mushroom with "RIP Crybaby" carved into it, and in the DEATH video she climbs out of Cry Baby's grave as something new - pink-skinned, four-eyed, and somewhere between Earth and the afterlife. "The theme is the afterlife," she said, "going from death all the way to birth."

It's the first album she produced herself. CJ Baran is the main producer, but she produced or co-produced DEATH, VOID, FAERIE SOIRÉE and LIGHT SHOWER, and VOID and LIGHT SHOWER are the only songs she's ever written and produced completely alone. Kinetics & One Love are back on TUNNEL VISION and MILK OF THE SIREN. There are hidden songs too - Venus is tucked inside FAERIE SOIRÉE and Amulet inside NYMPHOLOGY. And WOMB ends on "life is death is life is death" and loops back into DEATH, so the album never really ends.

VOID is her favorite - "it was very cathartic to make and to express my feelings of anxiety." SPIDER WEB is about social media addiction, BATTLE OF THE LARYNX is a fuzz-guitar song against men talking over women, and MOON CYCLE is about the menstrual cycle. She's said it's "the first album that I didn't outgrow really quickly."

It debuted at number two with 142,000 units, her highest ever, and it was her first number one in Australia and New Zealand. VOID went to 61 on the Hot 100, her biggest hit. The deluxe has POWDER, PLUTO and MILK OF THE SIREN, which were the encore on the PORTALS tour.

With the deluxe tracks it's 16 songs, about four minutes.
