Trench Song Sorter

About Trench

Trench dropped on October 5, 2018, after a year of silence. They went quiet in July 2017, and in April 2018 fans found dmaorg.info, a website of letters from someone called Clancy trying to escape a city called Dema. The band came back that July with a yellow eye, and the whole world of the bishops and the Banditos opened up. "'Trench' represents the place between two places," Tyler said. "Where you're from and where you should be."

Tyler made it at his home studio in Columbus, with Paul Meany of Mutemath co-producing, and nobody else heard it until it was done. He told the New York Times it "almost destroyed" him. He'd been working on Bandito since 2015, and it has "Sahlo Folina" in it, which is an anagram of "all Ohio fans".

Jumpsuit changed the album - Tyler said it was meant to be softer until he wrote it - and it got a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song. Nico And The Niners is about leaving Dema, and Chlorine is about "cleansing your mind from dark thoughts", with Ned, the little creature in the video who stands for creativity. Smithereens is a love song to Jenna, and Neon Gravestones is about how the media glorifies suicide. Legend is for his grandfather Robert, the man on the Vessel cover, who died in March 2018. "By the time I got to the last verse he'd already passed," Tyler said. Bring tissues.

It went to number two, behind the A Star Is Born soundtrack, with 175,000 units - their biggest week until Breach. They made a mock A Star Is Born poster with themselves on it while they were trying to beat it. Rock Sound named it album of the year.

Fourteen songs, about three minutes. I think it's their best album, and I'm not taking questions.
