Vessel Song Sorter

About Vessel

Vessel dropped on January 8, 2013, and it was their first album on Fueled by Ramen. Tyler has said he thinks of it as their real first record, even though it came after two self-released ones. Car Radio, Holding On To You, Ode To Sleep, Guns For Hands and Trees were all re-recorded from 2011's Regional at Best, and House of Gold came from one of its bonus tracks.

Greg Wells produced the whole thing in Los Angeles. The title is about the body - "an object carrying something far more important than the outer shell" - and the two men on the cover are their grandfathers, Josh's on the left and Tyler's on the right.

Car Radio is a true story. Someone stole everything from Tyler's car, radio included, and he couldn't afford a new one, so he drove in silence with his own thoughts. It has no chorus. Guns For Hands came from talking to young fans after a show, and Tyler wanted it to be about "taking that negative energy and aiming it at something else, not aiming it at yourself." House of Gold is for his mom, and Trees, which he first tried recording at 17, is still how every show ends.

It debuted at 58 and only peaked at 21 three years later, after Blurryface. But every song on it has gone at least gold, so in 2019 Guinness named them the first act to do that on two albums. Truce closes it, and it came back years later - played backwards, it's Intentions, the last song on Breach.

Twelve songs, about three minutes.
