Ashlyn Song Sorter

About Ashlyn

Ashlyn, her debut album, dropped on May 7, 2021, on Mom + Pop. She thought about calling it A Matter of Time or The Faultline, then went with her own first name because it was the most personal choice. It's the first part of the name trilogy, with Rae and Willson to come.

Leroy Clampitt produced most of it, with Pet Sounds as the north star, and Not Mad Anymore leans into Queen as much as the Beach Boys. She described it as "too pop for alternative and too alternative for pop". It was written in the wake of her divorce, but she's said it isn't strictly a breakup record.

Ryne's Song is for her older brother, who died in September 2020 after a long struggle with addiction. It includes a voicemail he left her, and she wrote it with Clampitt because she said no one else could have. Bring tissues. Till Forever Falls Apart is the duet with FINNEAS - she wrote the core and wanted him to sing it, so he wrote the second verse. For the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers video he learned the choreography over Zoom, and they danced together for the first time at the shoot. It's gone gold in the US.

The album reached number 194 on the Billboard 200. On the Fault Line Tour the next year her support act was The Brook & The Bluff, whose drummer John Clark Canada she'd go on to marry.

Moral of the Story is on Ashlyn too, but here it lives on Chapter 1. The Niall Horan version is the bonus track, and it's on by default. Thirteen songs, about three minutes. Kansas is my sleeper pick.
